ENSTAR Natural Gas Custody Transfer Measurement Technician in Anchorage, Alaska

JOB SUMMARY:The primary responsibilities of the Custody Transfer Measurement Technician position include the installation, maintenance, repair, and calibration of Enstar's Transmission Pipeline custody transfer metering stations and Enstar's high volume distribution metering stations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Install, maintain, test, and repair ultrasonic meters, gas chromatographs, turbine meters, and positive displacement meters.
  • Install, program, and maintain electronic flow computers and correctors.
  • Audit meter station facilities.
  • Calculate and report unmetered gas volumes.
  • Investigate meter diagnostic and EFM discrepancies.
  • Conduct detailed root cause analysis on metering electronics.
  • Collect gas samples.
  • Document and maintain meter tests and inspections.
  • Document and maintain field records/applicable paperwork.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Support field maintenance activities and construction projects.
  • Other duties include parts ordering, cleaning, painting, general labor, and other duties as required in the operation of metering stations.
  • Position may require being available after hours on a rotating on-call basis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two-year degree in electronic instrumentation, process technology, or equivalent degree and/or experience.
  • Prior gas measurement experience is highly desirable. Experience with gas measurement software such as Roclink 800, Flowgate, Sonic Explorer, Uniform/Uniguard, MasterLink,
  • Must be able to perform assigned tasks unsupervised and make appropriate decisions.
  • Familiarity with the geographical layout of Southcentral Alaska.
  • Must possess current Alaska Driver's License and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of ENSTAR's Driving Policy.
  • Employment is contingent on successful completion of the Operator Qualification Program.
  • Ability to pass a drug, background, past employment, and driving record screening. Must be able to pass a background check to gain access to Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson and the Port of Anchorage.
  • Position requires a moderate amount of travel to the Kenai Peninsula and Beluga Gas Fields. Flying with small commercial air carriers is routine.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Fundamentals of natural gas measurement
  • High mechanical aptitude working with hand and power tools.
  • Ability to install electrical wiring. Primarily low voltage, D/C control and telemetry wiring.
  • Ability to install, test, calibrate, program and maintain electronic measurement and control devices.
  • Ability to establish and maintain field records, meter records, and paperwork.
  • Knowledge of pipeline operations and maintenance activities.
  • Knowledge of positive displacement and inferential meters, with a strong emphasis on ultrasonic meters.
  • Thorough understanding of AGA Report #9, API 21.1, and other gas measurement standards. Ability to understand and ensure compliance with contracts and tariffs with suppliers, customers, and state and federal agencies.
  • Knowledge of natural gas utility construction projects and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge/ability to learn ENSTAR's Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate detailed information accurately and clearly.
