Phlebotomist ID 2024-21956 Category Specialty Technicians - Phlebotomist Facility DOD / MTF - Alaska - Elmendorf Air Force Base Job Description Spectrum Healthcare Resources has an Exciting Potential Opportunity for a Phlebotomist at Medical Group, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. Job requirements: Degree/Education: High school equivalent and completion of NAACLS, two-part Phlebotomy program, or successful completion of an Accredited Laboratory Phlebotomist Training Program. Experience: Must have performed 40 hours of classroom training, 100 hours of clinical training and 100 successful venipuncture (including skin punctures). Phlebotomist must have completed a phlebotomy course or equivalent On-the-Job Training (OJT) and obtained Phlebotomy certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency (NCA), American Medical Technologist (AMT), or equivalent. Core Duties: * Ensure patient and staff safety through safety awareness, proper infection control, and promotion of clean, orderly lab environment. Recognize, report and correct potential safety hazards. * Apply knowledge of established MTF standards of care and TJC/CAP/AABB/FDA requirements for clinical and documentation protocols, safety, infection control and performance improvement. The Phlebotomist shall ensure compliance with policies and provide consistent training and guidance for staff members. * Shall perform procedures compatible with the medical facility's operating capacity, standard operating instructions and equipment. Deviations from approved practices shall not be introduced without prior recommendation to, and approval of, the laboratory's authorized representative. * Shall demonstrate initiative and responsibility, work as a team member, manage time effectively, prioritize and perform multiple tasks and adapt to change. The healthcare worker shall treat patients with compassion and empathy, recognize and respect cultural diversity, adapt communications to individual's ability to understand, use professional telephone technique, and use effective and correct verbal and written communications. The use of correct medical terminology is necessary to appropriately receive, organize, prioritize, and transmit information and serve the laboratory's liaison with patients and medical staff members. * Collect blood samples from patients. * Ensures specimens are collected in the amount and type of specimen required (e.g., with or without a particular anticoagulant) for each laboratory test. * Practice proper patient identification, especially when working on hospital floors. * Instructs patients on collection of specimens using collection instructions (e.g., semen samples, stool samples, etc.). * Dresses the skin puncture site after blood collection. Carefully observes the patient for any sign or symptoms of physiological reactions after blood collection and takes appropriate first aid measures to prevent injury and stabilizes the patient. * Label vials with patient names and dates. * Reviews specimen labels and properly labels collected blood specimens with appropriate patient identification information and delivers specimens within the established time frames. * Perform other related duties as necessary.
