ENSTAR Natural Gas Planning/Budget Analyst in Anchorage, Alaska

JOB SUMMARY:The Planning/Budget Analyst, under minimal supervision, performs a variety of analytical, technical work associated with the preparation of budgets, outlooks, and strategic plan inputs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide reporting tools and financial analysis for business and project managers for their respective business functions and projects.
  • Coordinate the preparation of annual budget and strategic plan, including revenue, capital, and OandM budgets.
  • Collaborate with executives and project managers to develop a budget.
  • Forecast and track financial results throughout the year to meet budget projections.
  • Collate, analyze and interpret data to develop a snapshot of existing financial operations and translate operational reporting into meaningful financial forecasts.
  • Prepare monthly OandM and capital outlooks/forecasts and budget reports.
  • Provide accurate annual budget and monthly outlook/forecast information reporting to parent companies for consolidation.
  • Monitor spending to ensure it remains within budget.
  • Prepare monthly variance analysis reports and work with business unit managers to explain significant variances.
  • Organize budget templates and data in a clear and intuitive manner.
  • Help identify financial or operating risks associated with the execution of the budget or project.
  • Perform analysis of labor and other ad hoc financial analysis and reports as requested by management team.
  • Work closely with finance group at ENSTAR and SEMCO to ensure clear communication and accurate and timely reporting.
  • Prepare presentations for management.
  • Perform special analytical projects as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
  • 2-5 years of related work experience. Utility accounting/finance experience preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Managerial Accountant (CMA) preferred
  • Knowledge regarding the public utility accounting process preferred
  • Ability to pass drug and background screening
  • Valid Alaska driver's license

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to deal effectively with a variety of interpersonal relationships and situations
  • Ability to sift through information and ask relevant, focused questions
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel and various personal computer business software applications presently used by ENSTAR and ability to learn new applications
  • Proven organizational and analytical skills, including the ability to evaluate data, and prepare reports, graphs, tables and charts
  • Knowledge of accounting practices and procedures; ability to perform related tasks
  • A broad understanding of ENSTAR's policies, procedures, systems, and the flow of transactions in the Accounting area
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision

  • Must maintain a positive work atmosphere through effective interactions and communications with co-workers, customers and management
  • Must maintain a safe environment for co-workers, customers and the public through adherence to established safety standards and timely reporting of potential hazards
  • Must adhere to ENSTAR's policies and procedures related to the code of business ethics, compliance, responsible use of assets, and all applicable state and federal laws
