TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION E050 Transportation Specialist I or II - Traffic Section in Bryan, Texas

Provides technical expertise and coordination for transportation programs involving multiple design and/or building construction projects, construction of transportation systems, traffic operations, maintenance of highways and facilities, or bridge inspection and appraisal in accordance with Department standards. Assists with project planning and the development of policies and procedures for area of responsibility. Work requires contact with governmental officials, consultants, contractors and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Assists in prioritizing and scheduling projects.Assists with coordinating and monitoring Community Traffic Safety Programs and activities involving preparation of the District Highway Safety Plan Coordinates traffic studies, analyzes traffic data, determines need and prepares plan layouts for traffic projects including signs, signals, illumination devices or traffic data collection devices. Develops site layouts utilizing engineering workstations and software.Ensures compliance with specifications for devices; safety laws, rules, and regulations; and The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Investigates and responds to public complaints on traffic signals, signs, railroad crossings, and pavement markings, traffic management system or other traffic related items. Make recommendations to replace or modify signs, signal, and illumination devices. Prepares and distributes strip maps for speed zones. Researches and evaluates data, interprets and analyzes results, prepares reports and recommends solutions to problems. Reviews and revises Plans, Specifications Estimates and project designs for traffic control devices, signals, signs, markings, detours, traffic control plans, roadway illumination, traffic management systems or Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
